Donald Trump Hopes for U.S. Control Over Greenland

Trump Believes Greenland’s Residents Support U.S. Integration

Online Desk:

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that the United States can establish control over Greenland. He believes the 57,000 residents of the autonomous territory, currently under Denmark’s jurisdiction, would prefer to be aligned with the U.S.

Speaking aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump told reporters, “I think we’re going to get it (Greenland),” adding that the island’s population wants to join the United States.

Trump’s remarks come shortly after media reports highlighted his phone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen last week. During the call, Frederiksen reportedly stated, “Greenland is not for sale.” Trump reiterated his intentions to gain control of Greenland after Frederiksen’s firm stance.

In 2019, during his first presidential term, Trump made headlines by expressing his desire to purchase Greenland. At that time, he justified the move as “crucial” for international security.

When asked by reporters about his renewed interest, Trump reiterated, “I believe the people there want to be with us.”

Meanwhile, Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede has responded, emphasizing the island’s aspiration for independence and stating clearly that Greenland is not for sale.

This ongoing discussion underscores the geopolitical importance of the Arctic region, with Greenland holding significant strategic value due to its location and resources.
